Sound

Image
Recently, we all sat down with each other at Maylynn’s to revise our entire plot. There were several reasons behind this decision as our original plot wasn’t cohesive and that it had scenes that required professional acting. It was also more of a trailer rather than a movie opening, like what the Becon guy told us. Therefore we had to change up our entire script to make shots not only easier to film but to also make it cohesive and easier to follow. Anyways, with this new plot there will be many creative ways we can implement sounds and sound editing to make a more enhanced and engaging experience for the viewers. I will have an upcoming blog going more in depth of our new and improved plot but for now I’ll discuss what will be entailed in the sound editing process of our new movie opening.        To begin, the main editing will be conducted by Maylynn as she is very thorough and talented with editing skills. I had the pleasure of being her partn...

First Day Of Shooting

Image
We had to do our first day of filming in a rush and had to do our filming on my iPhone as we were also not able to get the camera equipment from Becon Tv. Nevertheless, we were able to get a scene done despite the setbacks. To recap our day, all of us went over to Maylynn’s house to film. Initially we planned on doing this beginning sequence and the argument scene, but there where way too many takes from Jason and Jaden breaking character as well as me and Maylynn laughing in the back. Thus, we decided for today to be a day to get some minor filming in and getting a better scope of what we will remedy in our production and how to improve our upcoming filming dates. We were able to making a missing person poster of Jason and show his brother putting up the poster as well as him walking by in the background then crumbling up the missing person poster. These shots were viable as they were outside and in more daylight. But for the argument shots, the...

Inspiration from BEACON

Image
Recently, a film creator and judge of various student film competitions took the privilege of coming by to our media studies class. He was very engaging, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable about the subject of film and how to develop an effective narrative especially for beginners and students. The information and examples he provided to our class was very helpful in letting us understand how to improve our film opening, make the process more efficient and make it the final product enjoyable for the audience. To be begin with, he showed the class a short film, called “The Mighty” in which a young girl who has aspirations of being a super hero gets shut down by her mom. This affects her personality as she becomes more sad and closed off. Nevertheless, she is a superhero even without a cape as she is a hero when she saves a dog from getting hit by a car. The Mighty was a great example of a student film as it hits all ...

Side Character Analysis

Image
Our movie opening does not feature many characters as we decided to focus mainly on the two brothers, Jason and Jaden. Nevertheless, we will feature two other characters inside of our film, including a friend who will appear in a crosscut phone call with Jaden and the murderer at the end of our plot. For the friend, they will be featured in a brief scene after the flashback in a call with Jaden. This will be in a series of crosscuts going back and forth. We will be able to see both Jaden and the friend holding a prop of a phone to indicate to the viewers how they are communicating through call. In this phone call the two will discuss the whereabouts of Jason as well as emphasize Jaden’s increasing stress, his relentlessness in finding his missing brother, giving a timeframe of how long Jason has been gone, and also reveal to the viewers of how Jaden has recently been experiencing unusual activities such as having things fall o...

Color in project

Image
As the movie opening we plan on making entails of horror and mystery, it will have low-key lighting and dark filtering. Having the movie be dark throughout the opening will allow the viewers to grasp an understanding of the ambiance. The dark colors they see  establishes the mood, drawing viewers into an immediate, ominous atmosphere that builds anticipation and anxiety. An atmosphere of dread and ambiguity is fostered by the scenes' low lighting and hidden shadows. Furthermore, deliberate hiding is made possible by dim lighting, which heightens the suspense by casting important details in shadows and piques the interest and involvement of the audience as they work to reveal the story's secrets. An example of this will be in the beginning where a silhouette is seen walking behind one of the characters which focuses the audience’s attention towards it. In  addition, the flashback scene of the two brothe...

Main character analysis

Image
There are 2 main characters in the movie opening. The two brothers one of them that has a double role in the sense that he has an alter ego revealed at the end of the story, Jason Davis who will be the deranged murderer.  As we are just using the costumes to convey the distinct personalities and mental illnesses of our characters; especially Jason Davis, who portrays the insane and psychologically disturbed brother. Jason is a character who is visibly going through a rough period in time, he is a young adult who is having issues with taking medication for his mental illness. Though his brother wants to help him combat his inner problems, Jason doesn't want to accept his brothers help. In a fit of rage he packs up his belongings and flees away. The costumes are, all things considered, an essential component of the beginning prologue.  It is crucial that we make clear who the main antagonist and protagonist of our story is. For ins...
