Color in project
As the movie opening we plan on making entails of horror and mystery, it will have low-key lighting and dark filtering. Having the movie be dark throughout the opening will allow the viewers to grasp an understanding of the ambiance. The dark colors they see establishes the mood, drawing viewers into an immediate, ominous atmosphere that builds anticipation and anxiety. An atmosphere of dread and ambiguity is fostered by the scenes' low lighting and hidden shadows. Furthermore, deliberate hiding is made possible by dim lighting, which heightens the suspense by casting important details in shadows and piques the interest and involvement of the audience as they work to reveal the story's secrets. An example of this will be in the beginning where a silhouette is seen walking behind one of the characters which focuses the audience’s attention towards it. In addition, the flashback scene of the two brothers arguing will have white filtering to indicate and reinforce that it is taking place in a past setting and to also be less tense as the characters aren’t in a particularly scary situation.
Furthermore, coloring is also used in their attire as Jason will wear an all black outfit mirroring his characters inner turmoil. The black should evoke an alarming aura around his character. Especially because he is mentally unstable and has issues. He should be unpredictable and the audience should understand that he is an antagonist in the story just based off of his attire/clothing. Whereas, his brother, Jaden will be adorned in a stark opposite of what Jason is wearing. He will wear brighter colors such as a light blue or white button up shirt to match his level-headed persona and that he is the protagonist whom is trust worthy, and has integrity. Furthermore, the colors of the clown at the end will be wearing a colorful costume that clowns wear. Usually colors indicate light hearted emotions, but seeing the vibrant colors in a dark setting will be eery to the eye and audience as it is something that is out of place and wrong. It should be scary and indicate that the clown is an evil force in the story.
