Side Character Analysis

        

       Our movie opening does not feature many characters as we decided to focus mainly on the two brothers, Jason and Jaden. Nevertheless, we will feature two other characters inside of our film, including a friend who will appear in a crosscut phone call with Jaden and the murderer at the end of our plot. For the friend, they will be featured in a brief scene after the flashback in a call with Jaden. This will be in a series of crosscuts going back and forth. We will be able to see both Jaden and the friend holding a prop of a phone to indicate to the viewers how they are communicating through call. In this phone call the two will discuss the whereabouts of Jason as well as emphasize Jaden’s increasing stress, his relentlessness in finding his missing brother, giving a timeframe of how long Jason has been gone, and also reveal to the viewers of how Jaden has recently been experiencing unusual activities such as having things fall off in the house or feel as if someone is lurking. I remember them discussing how the friend is likely to be a girl with a empathetic voice to add to the somber and serious ambiance of the film. She would likely be wearing regular clothing and bright clothing, not anything dark like Jason as he should be the only one who wears dark clothing to reflect his declining mental health. She is supposed to be someone comforting to the viewers and be there to provide solace to the brother Jaden. She is a sympathetic and down to earth character that the viewers may resonate with as she is the most sane out of all the characters portrayed in our story. 

      The other side character in our story, is the murderer at the end of the opening. The audience is likely to be able to infer that the murderer is in fact one of the brothers and not another individual. However, the murderer is still another character in the sense that it will show how Jason’s character has gone down such a dark path that he went from being a brother to an evil sadistic killer. It will show his true sinister form and how dangerous his mental illness cause him to become. This character will have a prop of an axe. This axe will be his choice of weaponry when murdering his victims and will add to the increasing threat surrounding this character. Furthermore, he will also be in a clown costume. The utilization of the clown costume is a strategic aspect as it should heighten the fear and suspense in the movie opening. The costume has an uncanny effect with the vibrant colors, exaggerated features. It strays away from regular human traits. Furthermore, it conceals the identity of the character creating mystery around who is actually behind the mask, the fear of the unknown. Also, it is the juxtaposition of seeing a clown that is typically supposed to be in comical settings and to entertain audiences usually family/kids, but instead seeing this clown with completely opposite intentions and personality. Where he’ll be in a dark and eerie location with a ax and dead body next to him.
