What I’ve learned - Recap

Image
Throughout this entire year, I have learned so much about film that I won’t ever watch a movie, show, or even social media content the same… Whether that’s a good thing where I can analyze a film more or a bad thing that I’ll be paying attention to shots and angles rather than someone else watching just enjoying the story. But I have proven myself by learning about so much. I looked back at my old blog posts and come to think how much i’ve grown this year in my knowledge of media and film. Shots, angles, composition, sound, editing, etc all these components where something I barely ever thought about but now I understand these concepts and techniques and i’m grateful for knowing these. Learning these aspects and seeing examples of these techniques in actual movies and films in school was a great outlet for me to be exposed to the craft of filmmaking. And then, coming together with my group and making this movie opening with my group and physically creating a movie made my r...

My contribution: sound director

Image
A responsibility I took forward for my group is to make all the Foleys for the movie opener. There was a ton of effort and time that went into this. First of all I had to make all of this during spring break with the help of one of my cousins as making these foleys by myself was just simply impossible. It took me all of spring break to make quality foley's that sounded genuine and real to what was being seen. After making these foleys i’ve come to realize how difficult of a job it is. To match up a shot with its sound is something that seems easy, but when you actually go to record audio, things just don’t align up. For example, It was very hard for me to make footsteps that sounded authentic as if someone was just walking regularly and not footsteps that sounded like they were being made for the mere purpose of making a Foley. At the end I made a total of 14 foleys and it took me 5 days to record all of these which was tiring to say the least. But at the end I was proud of the f...

I think it was obvious from the start to all of us that this movie opener would definitely not be something that a big billionaire movie studio would make. No, we are not Disney studios or Warner brothers but we did get fancy equipment from Beacon, use ourselves as actors, etc. but at the end it still isn’t something equivalent to the multi-million dollar production movies people see on the big screen which I’m sure the board of Aice knew and expected from us mere students. But imagine I was a big shot director, say James Cameron Christopher Nolan, or Steven Spielberg and I had a billion dollar budget and studio at my finger tips waiting for me to make calls I would certainly abuse that power and make tons of wishes to make this movie opener exactly how I would want. Starting from the casting choices, the lighting, editing, to set and location. I’d make sure to leave a mark on all of these various aspects of movie production and make this movie opener that people would treat like the n...

Inspired movies

Image
From the start of assembling our group, we knew that we wanted to do something in the horror genre. Now horror isn’t something that is easily achieved. It requires you to build suspense and tension. The audience should feel that suspense and feel scared as to whatever ominous event will come up soon. To be able to understand how we can incorporate and evoke such feelings into our movie opener, we looked at movies and films that would definitely help us get an idea of how we wanted to approach the filming and what shots to get done. Some of these movies are well known and i’m sure you’ve seen it and gotten scared and maybe even gotten nightmares? Well regardless of whether you got nightmares I know I did when I saw these but they certainly did make us get inspired. Which at the end helped us all know what to do as we had something to look at as an aid and guide for us in the complex genre of horror. We didn’t want our horror to be comic and unrealistic. We wanted it ...

Thoughts of final project

Image
With us already having the movie project done, which you all will get to FINALLY see soon! I am more than content and excited to show it as I truly think it is a great project. I am very proud of all of my group members who put in so many hours, endless days of working with each other and overall just being there for all of us whenever any of us needed help. We certainly have come a loooongggg way but I think that’s the beauty of it all. It goes to show how at the start we were just people who had a love for film and didn’t have any idea of the actual process that goes behind making them. But throughout this year, we learned about endless aspects of film. Though we don’t have the same understanding and capability as a professional big shot director, I think that we’ve grown so much. If we had to make this movie in the beginning of the year, I don’t think it’d be even 1/10th as good as what we have right now. We simply didn’t have the same erudition an skills that we ...
