Inspired movies

From the start of assembling our group, we knew that we wanted to do something in the horror genre. Now horror isn’t something that is easily achieved. It requires you to build suspense and tension. The audience should feel that suspense and feel scared as to whatever ominous event will come up soon. To be able to understand how we can incorporate and evoke such feelings into our movie opener, we looked at movies and films that would definitely help us get an idea of how we wanted to approach the filming and what shots to get done. Some of these movies are well known and i’m sure you’ve seen it and gotten scared and maybe even gotten nightmares? Well regardless of whether you got nightmares I know I did when I saw these but they certainly did make us get inspired. Which at the end helped us all know what to do as we had something to look at as an aid and guide for us in the complex genre of horror. We didn’t want our horror to be comic and unrealistic. We wanted it to feel authentic so all these movies did help us achieve that. Anyways, without a further delay, the movies we were inspired by was, Creep (2014), It (2017), and Black Phone (2021)

When we first got together as a group Jason and Maylynn talked about when both of them saw the movie Creep together. I never saw it before but they explaind the plot to me and much of the point of view shots there are. These pov shots inspired us which is why we also have a first person point of view shot at the end of our opening where we see Hailey getting kidnapped in her own viewpoint. We also saw about half a hour of creep together with each other and it was definitely a creepy movie. Then for It, and Black Phone, I remember when we all went to Maylynn’s house to discuss the prospects of a new plot. When we came together we looked at the movie opening sequence for both of those movies and were heavily inspired by them. It because of the child, Georgie, getting abducted by Pennywise. Georgie was innocent, naive and vulnerable just playing around with his toy boat when he got attacked by the clown Pennywise. This mirrors Hailey who was just playing with her dolls at the playground before the kidnapper, may I note who also wore a clown mask, came and abducted Hailey. Black Phone was a great source of inspiration as it begins with showing the audience of all the recent kidnappings and missing person cases of children. This caused us to have the radio scene where we hear a women in the car Hailey and her dad are in, of how kids have been getting abducted. All in all, these innovative and well put together movies made our movie more sophisticated and more scary. It definitely makes it more thrilling and entertaining to watch and I give credit to these great films to help us make our opening more appealing.
