My contribution: sound director

A responsibility I took forward for my group is to make all the Foleys for the movie opener. There was a ton of effort and time that went into this. First of all I had to make all of this during spring break with the help of one of my cousins as making these foleys by myself was just simply impossible. It took me all of spring break to make quality foley's that sounded genuine and real to what was being seen. After making these foleys i’ve come to realize how difficult of a job it is. To match up a shot with its sound is something that seems easy, but when you actually go to record audio, things just don’t align up. For example, It was very hard for me to make footsteps that sounded authentic as if someone was just walking regularly and not footsteps that sounded like they were being made for the mere purpose of making a Foley. At the end I made a total of 14 foleys and it took me 5 days to record all of these which was tiring to say the least. But at the end I was proud of the final products and thought it felt real and authentic especially since I have never done any sound directing as complex as this, so I was happy with what I was able to add to the movie and I believe even though it is small details, such as the creepy screech of a swings, it will add more meaning and depth to what the viewers are watching.

To begin, our mic was actually from the Beacon Tv warehouse. It was one of the equipments that was lent to us when we went to get other items. From the picture listed at the end you can see how the Mic was a Rode microphone that can be plugged into one’s phone. They provided you with a small wire for when you are just plugging into the phone directly and also another long extension cord for when you have to make a foley from a long distance. This long wire definitely came in handy for footstep foleys and was a great addition the Beacon person gave. A problem I faced early on is the fact that the Rode mic uses the old headphone jack that my iPhone 14 doesn’t have. So, I had to dig up my old adapter (white wire) that allows me to connect the microphone into my phone. After I figured that out, I made several different foleys of simple things that would need sound in our movie opener. This includes the sound of a backpack zipper opening, the closing and opening of a car door, multiple footsteps, the sound a playground swing makes, the sound of a metal latch opening, the noise a vehicle makes on the road while driving, and more. These foleys were as fun to make as hard it was to make as well. At the end I think I did a good job with the limited time I had and hope the work payed off and it made the movie opener more enjoyable and appealing to the viewers at the end of the day.
