Editing and transitions

Transitions in film  1. The dissolve This clip showcased two shots, including the establishing shot as well as the tilt shot/dutch angle. This was a fairly simple video to film as I took it at the roundabout in front of my house in the morning and at night. I filmed the scenery first and pointed to the sky in the morning and at night i pointed to the sky first and went back to the scenery. Editing this was a little difficult to blend in the two scenes and make it seamlessly dissolve and transition from morning to day, however I was able to create this and I think it is a calming scene portraying the time space that occurs within a day. 2. The cut  This video had a high angle shot for the 1st clip and a medium shot in the 2nd clip. This was fun to film with my friend as we acted out a scenario where two people meet up. I decided to use the transition of a cut because cuts in film are often utilized to change into a different scene without the audience even realizing. So, this s...

Movie Analysis

Movie: Pride and Prejudice (2005) 1. Establishing Shot  The establishing shots used throughout the film were cleverly utilized to let the viewers understand the difference between the two lead characters' lifestyles. We can see how Elizabeth is from a typical middle-class family (picture 1), this shot shows how their home has ducks around, clothes seem to be hanging, and the house doesn’t seem to look like anything fancy. Furthermore, when the film uses another establishing shot to show Mr. Darcy’s house it gives off a way different ambiance when compared to Elizabeth’s family home. His house appears to be much more clean, formal, and all in all looks like belongs to a wealthy owner. The use of these establishing shots provides more depth to the characters and helps us understand the disparity between them. 2. Long Shot In this shot, we can see Elizabeth’s entire body as well as her surroundings. The usage of this shot emphasizes her body language. We can see how she has her ...

Classmate Critique

Image
I left my critique on Indirah Bonnick's and Ryan Cuadrado's camera shot and angle blogs. As for Indirah's shots, she evoked tranquil and peaceful emotions throughout her videos, In her high-angle shot she was able to display beautiful scenery and was successfully able to create a harmonious ambiance as there were trees, different types of vegetation, and butterflies surrounding the environment in the film. Her close-up shot that focused on her eyes only emphasized the relaxed mood of the shot as she was calm and collected, and this was all perceived and portrayed through her eyes only. Overall her shots were well put together/recorded and had pretty landscapes.  For Ryan Cuadrado's shots, through an establishing shot, he recorded the school's garden grounds which was able to capture and evoke a sense of what an ordinary day at school was like, it had students in the background talking and walking around and also had a pretty view of the school garden. His other sho...

Camera shots and Angles post

Film angles  1. Close Up Shot This was the first shot I recorded and wanted to do something that wasn't too complicated and didn’t want to record something that required me inside the frame, so I decided to get a close up on a common house plant instead. This was a very simple shot to utilize and I wanted to create a calm environment with the plant.  2. Two Shot  This was a two-shot I made featuring me and my friend. I wanted to evoke a friendly emotion through this as we come onto the screen and hug and also humorous with the way we both walk into the frame. This was filmed several times because we both kept walking too slowly and were a bit awkward for the first few takes. However, I ended up picking this one.  3. Point of View Shot  This was a simple video of me when I was walking to school. I wanted to appear as natural as possible but I realized that i had to exaggerate the way I walked to emphasize that this was my point of view for example, it took longer...

Introduction

Image
Hi! My name is Afifa and I'm a sophomore at Everglades High School. I decided to partake in this course because of my enthusiasm and interest in movies, shows, books, music, etc. I always loved watching all the new/popular movies and shows at home, so I thought of this course as a way to incorporate my passion for film into academics. After looking into the course's syllabus I realized that it aligned with my ambitions in numerous aspects as digital media studies will be a great opportunity for me to pursue my curiosities, learn about the functions/workings of media, and gain a better understanding of research skills.  I believe that after this course I will leave with a better sagacity and perspicacity of media and will watch my movies and shows with a much more informed perspective including how directors are creating their movies through sound, visuals, and etc. I hope that this course will bestow me with erudition, enable me to achieve my goals, and assist me in acquiring...
