Editing and transitions

Transitions in film

 1. The dissolve

This clip showcased two shots, including the establishing shot as well as the tilt shot/dutch angle. This was a fairly simple video to film as I took it at the roundabout in front of my house in the morning and at night. I filmed the scenery first and pointed to the sky in the morning and at night i pointed to the sky first and went back to the scenery. Editing this was a little difficult to blend in the two scenes and make it seamlessly dissolve and transition from morning to day, however I was able to create this and I think it is a calming scene portraying the time space that occurs within a day.

2. The cut

This video had a high angle shot for the 1st clip and a medium shot in the 2nd clip. This was fun to film with my friend as we acted out a scenario where two people meet up. I decided to use the transition of a cut because cuts in film are often utilized to change into a different scene without the audience even realizing. So, this showcased how often times we don’t see what happens in between two scenes, like the distance my friend had to walk to get to me. The cut introduced another character (me) and brought in a new shot/angle too. All in all the cut is a clever and simple way to transition and not show unnecessary or time consuming scenes.

3. The Match cut

This video portrays a push in/dolly shot of me getting closer to the subject (my friend) and the A+ she got on a test, then the next shot is a eye level shot of me with the same A+ on a different test. The match cut is a tool to transition into another scene while using a similar component onto both shots, in this case the both of getting a A+. This was fun to shoot because we made a short lyric in the beginning and it ended up turning out humorous too. Editing this match cut is not too difficult as it is just a cut where there isn’t effects you have to edit on and it is certainly a creative tool in transitioning as you can make connections between several different factors to give a deeper meaning.
