Updated costume analysis

 

For our new costuming, in this new plot, the mis en scene was definitely more enforced and obvious for the audience to understand and perceive than the first plot of the mentally ill brother and the clean and sober brother. In this plot, we have a young little girl who went to the park and is playing with her toys and dolls. It was important to show the youth of this girl because it shows how naive and innocent she was. Which ultimately makes the audience feel scared for her and want to protect her from the evil harm that will inevitably come in her way. Making the costume was also much easier to put together as Maylynn was able to dig through her closet and find something that a girl of 5-8 years old would wear. I think she did a great job as she implemented accessories, hairstyle, and the clothing all coming together in a theme of juvenile style .

As seen in the pictures listed, Hailey wears one outfit through the entirety of the movie opener. We can see how she wears a bright yellow T-shirt that has cartoon animal characters. The shirt being a vibrant color shows the childlike side of Hailey as she is joyous and vibrant. Furthermore, it shows how she stands out and is a target to the people nearby her. She’s wear dark blue jean shorts. Furthermore, she has on converse sneakers and ankle length socks which is something i’ve seen children do in their style choices. Hailey also is adorned in multiple bracelets which we emphasize in a close up shot of her opening up the gate to the playground. Though this is a small detail, I think it really shows how she’s a kid as you don’t go around seeing adults wearing multiple bracelets like the ones Hailey was wearing. Next, she has on a backpack which is also a more childish backpack and not anything dark and dull which teenagers and adults usually wear. She wears round framed glasses which makes her seem more kid friendly. Furthermore, she has on pigtails which is a classic child hairstyle. All of this coming together definitely made Maylynn who’s a 15 year old at the time of shooting look like she’s a 7 year old. It helped that she’s not extremely tall so she transformed into the character. She looks childlike, joyous, vibrant, but also vulnerable.
