Representation
In our movie opener, we represent an adolescent little girl who gets kidnapped while going out to the playground. She is a naive and innocent girl who seems to represent much of children in their adolescence as she isn’t mature and sharp like an adult would be but she also isn’t completely defenseless. As at some point in the movie opener you can see her hesitation when she felt that she was being stalked and felt a threatening presence. The other actor in this is the guy in a clown mask that is the main antagonist whom ends up kidnapping the young girl. His features aren’t disclosed as his identity is concealed by the mask but you can tell that he is seemingly young from his body physicality and his hands that are visible to the screen. He is representing the psychotic and dangerous people in society that people need to look out for when it comes to themselves as well as individuals who are more vulnerable and susceptible to such acts of terrors and aggression.
The two actors are asian and asians typically have a stereotype of being intelligent and not being put into dangerous situations. They are able to overcome any obstacle thrown in their way by cleverly working their way through it. This movie opener breaks these stereotypes as it shows how no matter what race or background any kid will be vulnerable to the evil forces that lurk in the shadows. It shows how this young girl was kidnapped at the end of the day regardless of her race. The man who’s identity is concealed is also asian but we don’t really see his face but in movies we typically see psychotic individuals be white and i think this also breaks those barriers. If i had to change anything id make the either one of the girl or the kidnapper a different race just for diversity purposes because the world is a melting pot and it would make the movie opener more authentic and realistic.
