Updated Main Character Analysis

With the new plot, so did a new main character emerge in our movie opener. In our last plot the main two characters where two young adults Jason and Jaden Davis. The two of them were very complex and had several layers to their characters including mental illness, depression, and more. In stark contrast our new main character is Hailey Davis, a girl who is also less than half the age of Jason and Jaden Davis. To begin her character doesn’t have labyrinthine and elaborate traits as Jason and Jaden as she is just a kid. We get to see her so child-like things as well of her in her natural element unlike the previous plot where there was no scene of Jason and Jaden on a day to day basis. We see Hailey play with her dolls as a prop. These dolls drive home the idea of how juvenile Hailey is and lets the audience connect to her more by seeing her play on her own. She is free spirited and a little girl full of life. She doesn’t have any ill intentions, she is like any other regular child.

Furthermore, her physical appearance is a young girl and her costuming reinforces that as she has on pigtails, bracelets, a yellow shirt, and jean shorts. The mis en scene with this costuming helps show her naïvety and innocence. The audience is supposed to watch Hailey and feel almost protective over her as she is just a young girl out playing by herself. She doesn’t have any bad bones in her but when we see something lurking behind her, it should make the audience feel alarmed for her. She is defenseless and extremely vulnerable to her surroundings as she has no way to combat the evil that preys upon her. At the end she does get a bit frantic when she realizes something is wrong but there is nothing more than screaming that she can do as she is helpless in that situation. Overall, Hailey was a young girl who just like any other girl liked to go out and indulge in their child like tendencies of playing with their dolls or on the swings, but along with her juvenile behaviors also came with her defenseless and fragile physicality which is ultimately her liability which put her at risk of becoming an unfortunate victim. The audience at the end should feel concerned for Hailey as she did nothing wrong and vexed at the guy who  took her away.
