Title Sequence
For our title sequence, we had to encapsulate the main premise of our movie opener confined into one sequence. So it was imperative to put in key aspects of our movie opener into the title sequence through the visuals, font, color, and style. All of us in our group took the liberty to make our own creative title sequence, each with our own take on it, enabling a wider range to pick from. It was interesting to see everyone interpreting the movie in a slightly different perspective. Which goes to show that different things stand out to different viewers. A title sequence should let the audience know what is the genre of the movie and I think all of our title sequences were able to convey the mystery/horror genre as it all is dark and slightly eerie to look at. Furthermore, all of the title sequences were made easily and was not something that required extensive skills as we are not professionals at graphic designing.
I made two title sequences, my main one being the title sequence where one side is a playground in the morning. That side it is bright and there are kids playing around. I took the creative decision to put black out bands on their eyes because it is something i’ve seen them do to hide identities of people, whether in news media, or from the movie cover parasite which I was inspired by. Overall it just a small detail that gives off a creepy feeling as it raises concern over the kids. The other side of the playground is dark which is meant to show how Hailey Davis never got back home. The font is dark red as it should be an alarming color (blood) and I was wanting for it to look like a child’s untidy handwriting. There’s also a creepy piano tune playing in the background which adds to the eerie feeling. My second title sequence was of a little girl with an adult man’s hand over her mouth. It shows how she got kidnapped. Her eyes are also wide open signifying how scared she is. The font was the same dark red, child-like font except there’s also “Help Me” written. The coloring dark and shadowy showing how the little girl is kept hidden from the outside world. Maylynn's title sequence was a graphic design of a red playground slide with big letters of “Gone”. The coloring was also dark and had two figures of girls. Which was a contrast from the innocence and naivety of the girls to the stark dark background and slide. The font was simplistic and large, emphasizing the premise of the movie opening. Jaden’s title sequence was what I interpret to be a missing person poster of a girl. The girl can be seen riding on a scooter highlighting her juvenile nature. The font says “Gone” in bolded black letters indicating how she is missing and there’s a caption presumably referring to how the victims family want the girl that went missing in our movie opening, Hailey, back safe and sound. Jason’s title sequence was funny as it was a dark lighting playground with a creepy white figure behind the slide lurking. With “Gone” also bolded in a scary red font. Though his title sequence was a bit unserious, it lets the viewers understand a lot about the movie we did.
At the end my favorite title sequence out of all 5, were Maylynn’s as i think it was simplistic and got the point across as it encapsulates the mis en scene of our movie opening and is also dark/scary to look at.
