Preparing To Film

As the second semester begins, we started to finalize more aspects and details about what our final project will look like as well as how we will execute it. We already have decided much of the work and a lot of things are set in stone. So that we all are on the same page of what the final product will look like. As far as the story goes, doing the story board has really put things into perspective for us and really made us sit down and make big decisions for a cohesive story. Obviously, through filming we may make adjustments but for the six aspects i’ll talk about, we have a general idea for what is to be expected. Some of the topics we need to go over with each other such as filming date and finding a time that will work with all of our busy schedules. But as always our group will work together and make those decisions keeping our best interests in mind.

1. The Actors

Since the start, we already had decided who the actors were going to be. That has been set in stone for the longest, where Jason and Jaden will be the two main characters. While me and Maylynn will be the people behind the scenes making everything happen such as directing the scenes and editing it too. We will need to add another actor for a short scene in a phone call which we can just get a friend to do so. Or if we can’t find anyone willing to act/participate the last resort would probably have to be either me or Maylynn stepping in. To clarify, Jason will be the younger brother who is mentally ill while Jaden is going to portray the older brother who’s clean and a good guy.

2. Script

Jason and Jaden worked on making the script, as they are the actors and they are the ones who will have to perform the lines. Obviously throughout filming they may improvise more lines or we might interfere and tweak some lines depending on what fits better.

Script:

Brother 2: “IDK, this is what I’m talking about” *VERY SCARED*

3. Props

Our props have been decided for a while now. In the beginning we get to see missing posters of all of us as our credits, which is something that we need to make and print out. Furthermore, there’s a scene of the two brothers arguing which starts with pills falling to the ground. Thus, we will find some over the counter medication that isn’t needed so that we can take shots of it getting discarded. There’s also a scene of Jason’s character packing up his belongings so we will show probably his clothes and belongings or someone else’s items getting packed up in any of our backpacks. We also need a phone but all the items thus far are things that we already have within our reach and don’t require any further monetary assistance. Nevertheless, we need to buy a mask for the guy in the forest and in that scene he will be holding a Axe, which Maylynn said she can provide, and we also need trash bags which all of us have at home so that won’t be hard to get.

4. Locations

We really only have two locations in this movie opening. One of them will be filmed at a house for the beginning. Essentially, just for the establishing shot, outside the house for the missing posters scene, and inside of the house for when the two brothers fight and when the crosscut call happens. The second location is where the masked guy is in a woody, forest area. We decided to do this in any park such as the Miramar Regional park and go to a section where it is heavily surrounded by trees and vegetation. We may also just go to somewhere more secluded to not catch any attention from anyone passing by.

5. Dates and Times

This is not set in stone for us yet but we have a general idea. All of us are busy in our schedules as Semester 2 has just begun and we are busy with school work, extracurriculars, personal life, and etc. So we need to come together and decide a date to get together and film our stuff. It shouldn’t take too long considering it’s only 2 minutes but we want to put our time in to make the best project that we are all proud of. I know Maylynn said something about doing it over the weekend and maybe of February 3rd and 4th. But we all need to confirm if we can actually film that day so it’s not confirmed yet. But we need to film at two different times, one in the morning for all the shots except the shots of the street where we put up the posters.

6. Film Equipment

To film our movie opening, we might use a camera that Maylynn has but we aren’t certain because she said it might not be the best quality as it is from 2017. But it will probably be fine because the movie is set in 2015-2019 so the quality of the movie will reflect that time period. Furthermore, we will have the ending sequence of the masked guy in the forest filmed on a camcorder which we already have one of our friends lending to us. If this does not work out, all of us may rent a camera together and split the money. Our last resort if this doesn’t work out is to use our regular phones.
