Brainstorming

Image
Our group had many ideas that we wanted to explore for our movie opening. We knew we wanted to have a funeral scene with one of the members acting to die, and then his brother/best friend going to his funeral. That was the basis and we delved into how we can further develop that plot line. Some positives for this idea would be that it is unique and interesting. The cinematography/mis en scene would also look eye catching as it could be cold hue saturation on film, or it could be rainy with the funeral attendees holding black umbrellas much like the Hollywood films. We thought that not many people would have come up with a death/funeral idea and that it mirrors an actual Hollywood film opening. Furthermore, you can encompass a variety of different genres into it. For example, we could have done crime/mystery where the circumstances surrounding the characters death was not disclosed and troubling the characters friend who tries to discover the rea...

Former Student Work

Roll Call: The story which the students decided to share in this opening was well thought out and interesting as well as the students thoroughly strengthened their mis èn scene by having a specific setting in a interrogation room and decorating the scenery to portray that. It was well paced, had clever editing. For example, the camera shots effects for the mugshots was unique. The opening also had acting that wasn’t badly executed. Furthermore, they had quality sound as there was voiceovers and the interrogation room had mics installed for better sound quality. There were several camera compositions used such an establishing shot that zooms out in the beginning of the opener. Overall, it had mainly strengths than weaknesses because it was a film opening that obviously put in a lot of effort. One weakness I’d point out is that the camera was bit shaky at times but that might be intentional if the students where aiming for a documentary or real time effect. New Everything: This mov...

Group members

For the upcoming project, my group consists of me, Maylynn Ton, Jason Truong, and Jaden Dinh. I decided to work with them because we already are friends with each other which would ultimately help with our communication. Furthermore, they have a strong work ethic, are dependable, and creative, innovative and artistic with their film and camera skills which would make our project unique and interesting. We all would work together well and put together a good movie opener that everyone contributed to: I will be the cameraman, Maylynn will be the editor, and Jason and Jaden will be the actors in our movie opening.       While brainstorming routes to take our movie opening, we came to the decision to go for a mystery genre. We wanted our movie opening to be innovative and original. This, we decided to do a death of a character and lead it to a funeral sequence. This could’ve use several props, such as caution tape, a cemetery stone, and etc. Overall the mov...

Storyboard

Image
Movie: Corpse Bride (2005) Link to clip Link to my story board Story boarding is a creative way to make an outline of what the final product of a film would look like. I learned how it will describe components that each shot of a scene will have in order for the shot to add depth to the film. You can create a rough sketch of what the shot will entail. Then you can provide a description of key aspects of that shot. For example, what kind of camera transition there will be, sound effects/dialogue/background noise, camera movement, and overall visual characteristics. Story board is an innovative process to break down and analyze singular shots to create one scene. In story boarding you do not have to be an expert artist of any kind. You just need a rough sketch of how you visualize a scene to look like. Nevertheless, it is imperative to have a detailed description on the side to put into words what is image is supposed to be conjured up in the shot. You can include several aspects of...
